This isn't about laundry, but it is about odors. Because of my family's MCS we are unable to use the bedrooms in the (large) house we are renting. The carpet is virutally new, but the main problem seems to be that scented powder or detergent was used on it. Two of the rooms have a distinct perfumey chemical smell, but they are entirely different from each other.
I sprinkled one of the rooms with baking soda, let it sit for several days, and then shampooed the carpet with unscented detergent and peroxide. The smell has lessened , but it's definitely still there. I wonder if I just keep repeating the process if it will eventually go away, or if it is so embedded in the fibers that it's hopeless. Or if there are other safe odor-neutralizing products I could use?
Any ideas?

Zeolite can be effective. Here is one possibility:

Another is EMs (Effective Microorganisms)

Something will eventually work for you I imagine.
